Our Largest Investment in Decades

The construction of our newest state-of-the-art wallboard manufacturing plant in Wheatland County, Alberta is well underway. With more than CAD 210 million invested into building a 220,000 sq. ft. facility, this industry-leading facility is set to significantly boost the supply of our renowned Sheetrock® wallboard across Western Canada, while also creating over 200 construction jobs and more than 100 full-time manufacturing positions once the plant is operational.The opening of our Wheatland Wallboard Manufacturing Plant will mark a significant milestone for CGC and the region, playing a vital role in supporting local economic growth.

Renewable Energy & Local Impact

Designed to be the most eco-friendly plant CGC has ever constructed, the facility will feature state-of-the-art innovations. Powered by clean electricity, an on-site solar field, and industry-leading advancements, our Wheatland Manufacturing Plant is engineered for maximum efficiency. Here, we'll be able to produce high-quality wallboard with minimal water usage, lower energy consumption, and near-zero waste. By producing wallboard closer to our customers in Western Canada, we're not only enhancing service speed and accessibility but also significantly reducing transportation emissions for a more sustainable future.

Cutting-Edge Innovation & Zero Waste Manufacturing

CGC is redefining sustainability with a zero-waste approach, ensuring that 100% of production waste is recycled back into manufacturing, eliminating landfill contributions. A high-efficiency, gas-fired kiln recovers evaporated water, reducing energy consumption, while USG's advanced calcining technology transforms gypsum into stucco using the lowest available embodied energy. Complete with its high-efficiency lighting throughout the facility, our Wheatland Plant is truly one of the industry's most sustainable wallboard plants.

Since announcing the construction of our Wheatland County Plant, CGC has been deeply committed to becoming more than just a local employer—we’re here to be a true partner in the community.
From sponsoring local events like the Strathmore Stampede and Aggie Days to supporting vital organizations such as the Trellis Society and Siksika Family Services, we’ve worked hand‑in‑hand with the people who make this region special. Whether it’s raising over $31,000 through our Cowboy Corral silent auction—contributing to the nearly $100,000 raised for charitable organizations in the Wheatland and surrounding area or donating to the Carseland Fire Hall and charitable organizations through our Give Local program, the goal is simple: to help build a stronger, more connected community.
